Develop and integrate sustainable outpatient morbidity information system to health management information system (HMIS) in Sri Lanka
Ministry of Health and indigenous medicine has carried out a pilot project to develop a new OPD form and an OPD return, due to the fact that Morbidity data is recorded only for patients seeking treatments as inward patients of government hospitals in Sri Lanka. Feasibility assessment of the project has showed with successful results and new forms are recommended to launch in hospitals island wide. International Classification for primary care (ICPC) was selected as the classification for coding, which is recommended by WHO.
Health Information Unit is in the process of formal implementation process of the new forms to the national hospital system while integrating with Health Management Information System (HMIS) in phase out manner. The possibility of incorporating IT solutions and bridging the same manual forms to electronic version of ICPC with computerization of OPD system while securing the data flow is also being in consideration.
